Join your expert guide for a full tour of all the Vatican’s highlights
VATICAN CITY
One of our most popular Accessible Tours is our Vatican tour. You’ll join your expert guide for a full tour of all the Vatican’s highlights. This itinerary has been specifically modified in order to best accommodate those with access requirements.
First, you’ll visit the Vatican Museums. In there you’ll see some of the best artwork that European civilization has ever produced, including the spectacular Raphael Rooms, decorated in frescoes by the Great Master. You’ll see the spectacular School of Athens – perhaps the height of Raphael’s achievement. You’ll also discover the charming Gallery of Maps; an unusual corridor of maps of the Italian peninsula which has become a highlight.
Next, you’ll ascend an elevator to enter the Sistine Chapel. There you’ll get to discover Michelangelo’s greatest achievement; his Last Judgement and Sistine Chapel ceiling. Admire the carefully crafted scenes from the Old Testament on the ceiling; among them, the iconic Creation of Adam. A visit to the Sistine Chapel is a remarkable experience – one which we leave you forever enamored with Michelangelo’s most triumphant work.
Finally, you’ll head to St Peter’s Basilica. Once there, you’ll skip the line to the Basilica and enjoy a full tour of its triumphant interior. Discover this remarkable feat of architecture and the seat of the Catholic Church. Some of the world’s greatest architects and artists – including Bernini, Bramante, Michelangelo and Raphael – played their part in making St Peter’s Basilica the achievement it so clearly is.
Once your tour has finished, you’ll be collected in a private car with AC and taken back to your hotel. Wave your guide goodbye and rest safe in the knowledge you’ve just enjoyed a complete experience of the Vatican
We offer a variety of Rome tours ranging from group tours of Rome city centre to private tours of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and other key archaeological sites.
THE COLOSSEUM
Another great accessible tour option is our Colosseum Tour. Much like our Vatican tour, an expert guide will join you for a full tour of Colosseum and the Ancient City’s highlights. Your tour will begin in the Roman Forum.
Although the Roman Forum is notoriously inaccessible for those who want to wheelchair travel in Italy, this itinerary has been modified to make the Roman Forum easy. You’ll discover the heart of the Ancient Roman Empire. See the place where Ancient Roman history was made – including the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated. Admire the remarkable ruins of the Temples, Law Courts and see the Triumphant Arches of the former Roman Empire.
Onwards to the Colosseum! Now you’ll enjoy a tour of the world’s most famous amphitheater. You’ll see both the 1st and 2nd floor of the Colosseum, enjoying a spectacular view of the Colosseum Arena and Underground below. Discover the dramatic history of this bloody gladiator’s arena – where over 400,000 men were killed while operative.
Once your tour is over, you’ll be picked up from the Colosseum and returned to your hotel, to enjoy your new-found knowledge of the Ancient Roman world!

WHEELCHAIR TRAVEL IN ITALY
No one would claim that wheelchair travel in Italy is easy. Italy is famed for its cobbled streets and rolling hills – all things which make wheelchair travel in Italy a difficulty, as late/great art critic Robert Hughes knew so well. In the opening pages of Rome, Hughes’ controversial account of the Eternal’s City’s complete history and myth, he thanks all the friends who drove him around Rome and helped him access the city’s harder to reach sights in a wheelchair. However, not all of us are well-connected art critics with friends in the world’s most beautiful capital. Which is why Roma Experience has launched these Accessible Tours in Italy. We want to make wheelchair travel in Italy’s most beautiful cities a dream.
To make wheelchair travel in Italy easy, all our accessible tours include three main aspects:
An accessible vehicle, specifically modified for wheelchair users
Accessible itineraries adapted for those with access needs
A great tour guide and skip-the-line entry!
Discovering the wonders of Italy should be accessible to everyone, which is why we have specifically launched tours to make wheelchair travel in Italy a breeze.
